Hi: I'm hoping someone in the forum might help me. I am writing a novel and would like to have a character do a three card reading that suggests her friend's baby will be born quite soon. I tried some research and thought possibly 2 of Cups, the Empress and Sun? Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you

here is an idea.. (just to add a little twist to your story )
but first some actual advice,, the thing you have to decide is,, does your imaginary reader use positions ? does the reader uses each position as its own story aka complete in itself or does she or he uses the reading as a whole ?
is the reader new,, aka studied with some course,, and perhaps made an intuition jump ?(if so then you don't need emperess ) or is the reader quite old, old school like where the cards mean what the title say (ak for her the death card would mean death,, emperess mean birth )
as an excerise,,
try laying out 3 cards,, then try to relate the 3 cards to a possible pregnancy .. then take the 3 cards and look at them up and down,, (it now becomes a nine card spread eh ) just to see if any creative stories flow from that to possible pregnancy,
here is a question,, is the friend baby supposed to be complete blessing ,, or is it more horror story so you could have emperess,, devil,, and tower,, or 7 of wands for fighting the devil for the baby.
and here is an real life example.
at the end of a reading,, I had soul message and it was princess of some suit I forget,, I just remember the image was of a young girl, one of the new computer ones that I said,, I see your daughter having a daughter,, and holy it came true.. doesn't always happen.. at a pow wow,, a lady came to me a year later and said,, I didn't have my baby.. after having the emperesss card the year before I guess.

Thank you for your reply. The setting is Italy 1946; my character is an older woman, the village healer/mystic who is into everything from potions to herbs to tarot to prayer. She's unique! I love the idea of a little "horror" as you suggested since the baby will be well-loved but she has not come at a good time, and the mother will soon abandon her to her sister. The layout should be as simple as possible to keep the story moving; I want to imply the impending birth and the conflict without going into too much detail.
PS I have NO experience with tarot cards other than having my own reading once. I want to include this as an aside to both reinforce the mystic side of the character and to imply the conflict. Thanks again.

I would say -- The Empress, The Tower {sudden} and a Page card {to represent the baby} Page of Cups {girl} Page of Pentacles {boy}
That would say to me.. A pregnancy that suddenly results in the baby Hope that helps! Brightest Blessings to you and on your novel! <3 BeyondtheVeil

Thanks again. Sounds like an awesome storyline! I'm not sure you could get all of that from 3 cards. Five of Wands is conflict. Seven of Wands is winning over the conflict. Three of Cups would be the broken heart the mom feels. She isn't too unique as most of us are like that. Well..I am lol I do lots of different things. I think a Tea Leaf Reading, Palm Reading, or just a plain Psychic Reading could cover all of those. Better yet... An Automatic Writing Message? She could just get the message and it wouldn't have to be super long or a lot of detail if you didn't want. Just an idea as I don't see how three Tarot cards alone could predict all of that. Brightest Blessings! BeyondtheVeil
