The Past Present Future Spread. It seems to be the most popular three card spread out there; and the one that every beginner uses first. So I thought that we would spend a moment to talk about it. Lets break it all down and discuss each point. If you have a different thought then I do, PLEASE mention it below. I would love to hear how everyone interprets this spread.
Past ~ The obvious point of this placement it to remind you of what has happened in the past. Either parts that you know that you need to be reminded of, or maybe parts of the situation that you aren't seeing. But what past? This is more of "how you got here" placement for me. Not a recap of what has happened, but more about the energies around you that brought you to this point. So a 5 of cups in this place might suggest that you spent to much looking at what you didn't have, that you missed what you did have. And that the opportunity has past you by, because you choose not to see it.
Present ~ This would be where you are right now. Most likely whatever you needing a reminder on. Whether that is something that you know or something that you are not seeing. Either way, it is the thing that you are going to need to work on. It is "almost" an action for you. Something that you needing to pay attention to. Something that is needing to be "fixed"; the why you are still here.
Future ~ Okay to me this is the most confusing of the spread. I don't think that it really means future, in the sense that you can see the future. Or that this is set in stone. But more along the lines of what may be the outcome if nothing changes. If everything stays the way it is right now, if you choose not to take action that was in the present card, or you continue to ignore the past card; then this is where things may end up. The nice thing is, that this is always something that can change. If you don't like this then change your actions and this will also change.
So what are your thoughts? Is this a spread that you use a lot? How do you best utilize this information?
